A Collection of Collections
THE STORY
Throughout my childhood and young adulthood I have been surrounded by the collectors in my family: my mother, father, grandmother, cousins, and sister. Each one of us sharing the practice together; the act of acquiring sentimental, emotionally valuable items is something I hold important in reflecting upon my identity and my relationship to others in my community
THESIS STATEMENT
Finders Keepers explores how collecting is a tool to connect and create community; transcending temporal boundaries and creating conversations about what it is to be human.

MY PROCESS
To create Finders Keepers I independently organized about 15 different interview and photoshoot sessions with collectors from Emily Carr University and the East Vancouver area. Upon meeting with the collectors I decided the best way to feature their objects and conducted informal recorded interviews to add context as to why this practice is important to them. Using a photography style called “Knolling” I organized and displayed each collected object so that the future reader could easily look at and appreciate the vastness of the collections and how meticulous their curation is.
