Artist Statement

Horror has always intrigued me because of my morbid sense of curiosity and my interest in understanding and exploring people’s fear of the unknown through storytelling. There are many people in my culture and many others, who believe that watching certain things (namely, scary content) can invite evil into your home/life. As someone who enjoys watching scary movies, who doesn’t believe that, I can still understand how watching graphic content can have an effect on you and the way that you think and act; and that’s a concept that I wanted to touch on in my film. I also wanted to create something that represented my heritage with the help of my family (Joan Henry and Juanita Knight), because there are so many interesting scary stories from countries all over the world, and making this film gave me an opportunity to showcase some aspects of my own culture.
