What Vermin is This?

Ava Jane Stanley

Duration: 09:50

Genre: Surrealist, Horror, Experimental

Synopsis

What Vermin is This? follows the journey of one exterminator’s descent into the decaying heart of an abandoned hoarder’s house. As the exterminator uncovers the oddities of the house, they soon discover that the infestation runs far deeper than roaches. This surrealist horror challenges traditional film narratives and embraces a delightfully strange atmosphere of grime, junk, and shit.

Artist Statement

Film is not just a medium, but a space of contradiction, disorientation, and reflection. What Vermin is This? uses this space to explore the boundaries of the body; what leaks, what festers, what refuses to be confined. I am drawn to horror not as a spectacle, but as a means to distort the familiar, to expose what we are taught to suppress.

As a multidisciplinary artist, I work through abstraction and fragmentation, rejecting linear narratives in favour of atmospheric, sensory experiences. What Vermin is This? destabilizes normative forms of understanding, embracing the strange, the grotesque, and the excessive.
