Till Death Do Us Part

Zhimin Gong

The work “Till Death Do Us Part” is a 3D animation produced with digital media technology.

The duration of the work is 3 minutes, with an overall dark vibe and tone, carrying some horror themes.

The work uses marriage in traditional Chinese culture as its theme, uses ghost characters well-known to the Chinese public as protagonists, and tells the story through visual animation of a main character who tries her best to escape from the wedding but ultimately fails.

The historical background of the work is based on the Qing Dynasty, the time when women were most severely oppressed. The main idea is to tell people to pay attention to women’s rights, to prohibit the trafficking of women and children, and to oppose domestic violence, etc.

The scenes and characters in the work are all referenced from historical stories or figures.

The content in the work transforms real historical events into a horror story with fantastical elements, exaggerating and emphasizing human characteristics and some people’s rigid thinking in those historical events.

I use my own way to speak up for women, hoping to give more courage and strength to those who have been hurt

(all those who have been harmed, not just women).
