Shepherd
Mason de Vin
See it On Campus: Level 2

“A candle cowboy named Shepherd gets tossed into a world of heroes, outlaws, and creatures governed by a flame that gives them life. Meanwhile, Shepherd’s story begins colliding more and more with his conscious counterpart, a boy in the physical world who struggles with anxiety. The two must come to terms with one another to survive.”

Bringing Shepherd Into existence:
The original designs for the shepherd were intended for a short animatic I made in 3rd year for a storyboarding class, called Prison Take. The short features who is now Shepherd, as a bandit who escapes a tiny prison, taking it along with him.

Early Story and Style Development
The book’s original development struggled to find consistency in value and shape language. This was a much-needed change when moving forward with this project. The beginning of the story lacked a hook, which needed to be further developed to bring the reader into this world.
