Artist’s Statement:
In my final semester of 2D + Experimental Animation at Emily Carr, I developed a strong interest in 3D animation. For my grad film, The Clown Film, I combined 2D and 3D techniques to tell a story based on a real-life experience. In the animated version, two clowns discover a strange statue under a bridge that suddenly comes to life and pulls them into a video game world. I used Unreal Engine for making the final renders, Maya for the modeling, and Blender for the 3D animation, Toon Boom Harmony for the 2D animation, and Premier Pro for compositing. This project gave me the chance to experiment with a hybrid workflow, challenge myself creatively, and learn new tools along the way.
