Reverie
Jessica Fraser
My work explores the emotional and psychological bonds we form with the spaces we inhabit and how this relationship shapes our sense of self. Materials and objects are often associated with these spaces and have the ability to evoke memories of the complex relationships we hold with these environments. Through processes such as assemblage, mould making, material exploration, and installation, I aim to investigate the connection between physical material and emotional resonance.
I work with found domestic building materials such as plaster, wood, steel, wire mesh, and concrete due to their inherent relationship to domesticity and architectural applications. The process of collecting these materials has become an important part of my practice, as I am able to engage and connect with my neighbourhood directly. Contemplating the history embedded within these objects encourages me to engage in a collaborative relationship with materials.
