Sunlight you can hold

Oriel is a lighting project born from a personal longing for sunlight and the emotional comfort it brings. Inspired by the warmth of golden skies, quiet sunsets, and the soft glow of afternoon light, Oriel captures not just illumination, but a moment, a feeling you can return to whenever you need it.
Project Concept
After moving into a city filled with tall buildings and often gloomy weather, I realized how deeply I missed the emotional presence of sunlight. Oriel began with a simple question:
If I can’t recreate the sky, can I recreate the feeling of it?
I set out to design a light that doesn’t just serve a functional purpose, but invites stillness, reflection, and emotional connection into everyday life. Oriel is meant to feel like a quiet pause, a gentle ritual that brings a sense of warmth and nostalgia into your space.

Materials and Process
For this project, I created two lamps that explore the relationship between light, material, and memory.
The first piece reflects the gradual fading of a sunset through the movement of sand, where falling grains slowly cover the light, mimicking the warm, dimming glow of the setting sun.
The second piece draws inspiration from a found heat sink, whose layered structure reminded me of sunlight filtering through blinds. Using this object, I recreated the delicate interplay of light and shadow, capturing the quiet beauty of sunlight slipping through narrow openings.
Together, these works combine structure with softness, offering an experience that feels both familiar and uniquely new.

Oriel taught me that light has the power to shape more than just our environment—it shapes how we feel within it.
By designing not just for function, but for emotion, I was able to create an object that holds memory, presence, and a sense of belonging.
Oriel isn’t just a light. It’s a quiet companion for your space—a way to hold onto the warmth of sunlight, even when the sky is out of reach.
