“Gather gear that brings you closer to nature”.

UNPLUG & EXPLORE

This project is about encouraging younger generations to spend more time in nature by making that first step into the outdoors feel less intimidating.

Over time, I’ve noticed how technology has created barriers in relationships. Instead of connecting and talking directly, we’re often glued to screens, even in moments meant for togetherness. We’re talking through screens instead of with our eyes and lips, missing out on the warmth of a smile, laughter, and the energy of real conversations moments that truly build connections.

When I camped without electric devices, I felt a profound sense of reconnection both to the people I was with and to the world around me. It reminded me how important it is to step away from technology. I want people to remember and bring back the life we once had. So I decided to make outdoor gear.

During glamping trips, I realized what was really needed: a compact place to sit, a reliable surface for eating or gathering, and versatile gear that’s easy to store, carry, and easy to operate with. So I designed a gear set, table, and chair.

Select a leather handle to improve both durability and comfort.

To make the design more user-friendly, I added a copper rod to the front of the surface board. It’s a simple detail, but it adds convenience, perfect for hanging accessories within easy reach.

I introduced an adjustable leveling mechanism to address issues with uneven ground surfaces.

I included a built-in shelf inside the table, allowing users to store gear and keep essentials organized. For added strength, I reinforced it with shelf supports, ensuring it can hold both our weight and additional accessories during outdoor activities.

I noticed that in earlier prototypes, the foldable legs lacked tension and would drop abruptly when opened, which felt harsh and unrefined. To fix this, I added magnets at the contact points between the legs and the surface board. This addition makes the structure more stable, secure, and satisfying to use.

I also made a cushion for the chair that flips in and out from the rod, making it easy to use when needed and tuck away when not. It’s all about creating a more comfortable, flexible experience without compromising the aesthetic.

I am an industrial designer from South Korea, raised between Korea and Vancouver. Currently based in Vancouver, BC, I am always learning, creating, and exploring new ideas through design.

To me, design is about bringing people together—creating meaningful connections and shared experiences through thoughtful, well-crafted work.

I have explored various areas such as woodworking, ceramics, 3D modeling, and rendering, which have helped me develop a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of materials and form in the design process.
