Artist Statement

The story of Ollie&Mae draws loosely from my own observation of my pet’s experience but is also inspired by my own experiences growing up. The main struggle I experienced was the feeling of unbelonging, and it’s reflected in Mae’s background. Despite those undertones, Ollie&Mae has it’s own narrative. It follows the experience of a shelter cat having to adjust to the introduction of a new kitten who was pedigree bred rather than adopted. Uniting emotion and color in tandem, Ollie&Mae expresses itself in a style outside my comfort zone, but with a story whose familiarity is close to myself.
