Tatar 2.0
Alisa Trysheva

Focus area
Tatar is a Turkic language primarily spoken in various parts of Europe and North Asia, including Ukraine, China, Finland, and more. Due to the presence of other dominant languages, it has been in decline within the digital landscape.
The Tatar language has three alphabets: Cyrillic, Arabic, and Latin which is the most modern and used in this project.
Design response
I created Tatar 2.0 as a collaborative effort and structure to bring motion to the Tatar language for the first time and introduce it into the digital landscape in a unique way. Anyone, from beginners to advanced animators, can join the effort by submitting work that brings the Tatar language and culture to life.
Tatar 2.0 is a digital initiative that brings movement to this new era of Tatar with a branding, website, social media, and animations.

Brand
The brand behind Tatar 2.0 is simple and appears mainly on the website and logo, but it acts as a connective thread throughout. It draws from the bright, colorful culture of Tatar and is paired with a clean, modern aesthetic to reflect this new shift for the language.

Animations
As a beginner at animations, I aimed to create various of animations to contribute to Tatar 2.0, focusing on exploratory techniques. I animated common words and phrases as well as traditional icons, that are commonly found on Tatar leather boots (Shchiteqler). In the future, there would be animations from other designers to help contribute to this new era of the Tatar language.
Augmented Reality (AR)
To push the language even further, I created augmented reality (AR). This was an opportunity for both me and the language to explore a new space that I, as a designer, and the language have never been in before.
I created three QR codes you can scan to experience once placed on a vertical surface, as well as three post cards that, once scanned, plays AR on top of it.

Website
The Tatar 2.0 website is a gallery space hosting the animations and AR. You can view the website* here, from which you can interact with the AR** from.
*Website works best on Chrome desktop
** Adobe Aero app required
Social Media
Instagram serves as a platform to host animations, acting as a gallery, and helps attract a more global audience to the project.
