4th Year Grad Film – We Are Burning – 2D Animation
We Are Burning is a film following a middle-aged news reporter on a work trip surrounding wildfires. At the same time, she starts envisioning fire taking over her personal life and is consumed by work and stress, like how the fires consume the land around her.

Artist Statement:
My practice focuses on creating stories around themes that relate to someone’s connection to their environment and how they impact each other. Growing up in BC close to natural rainforests and beautiful rivers I have seen the effects that people and nature can have on each other. In my degree I discovered the joy of experimenting with different mediums and learned how to use these mediums to enhance the themes of my work. Ultimately, I hope that my work can inspire people to appreciate each other and care about the world we live in through highlighting these connections.

This film uses 2D animation to explore the beauty of BC landscapes. Look closely at each mountain line in the backgrounds- they are all drawn from different towns and recreational locations across BC. Also keep an eye on the line work- anything man-made has a hard black outline, while anything natural looks more painterly.
