Splay Out, 2025 – Acrylic, oil, plaster, and stitching on canvas. 56 x 32″

To splay out yourself, you show your joys and pains to the world. “Splay Out” showcases what ends up being shown in the face of vulnerability, both in the body and the spirit, encouraging viewers to explore the nuances involved in opening oneself up to others, the world, and yourself.

Through folding, pressing, cutting and crumpling the canvas with paint, marks are created and left behind, adding a layer of physicality that records the history of the canvas, and the artist who channeled their hands and body into creating. Plaster, stitches, and paint layer on top of one other to build and strengthen a structure. This work is a splayed out body that depicts the emotions and gestures of the artist, in a way, splaying out themselves through their painting.
