Kurt’s Bird Book & Bird Puppet

Kurtis Sawyer is a freelance editorial, packaging design and book illustrator currently based in Vancouver, BC. Raised in a small, forested, oceanside suburb of the lower mainland, they learned the valuable lesson of seeking creative inspiration from the natural world. Their practice mainly consists of analog mediums such as watercolour, pencil, and pencil crayon. They like to explore the vibrancy of these mediums and how they can create lasting and ephemeral stains on the page. They are passionate about helping others struggling with their identity to find connection; they do this through the symbolism the natural world allows. They hope their work can foster a community of like-minded folks with neurodivergent and queer identities. Kurtis has been published in local zines, exhibited in galleries, and has participated in a campus fellowships.
