About

Harold has never quite felt like the other caterpillars.
Every other caterpillar looks like marbles strung together, with short stubby legs and long antennae.
Harold is long and smooth and has never had any legs at all, resembling a misplaced shoelace.
That’s okay though, he knows everything will be okay when he turns into a butterfly…
Harold is a project that was born from love, sweat, copper, tears and ink stains. All of the illustrations for this book were created by etching the image onto copper plates, using hardground, softground and aquatint, which were then scanned and digitally coloured emulating chine colle.
Harold is a book that originally came from a place of isolation and loneliness during the pandemic. Through a lot of growing pains, long talks, lying on my couch pretending to be a sad worm, and living part-time at the print studio, I completed this book. It feels bittersweet as I am finishing my degree, and find myself the most at peace with the Harold I am and the beautiful, talented Harolds around me.
Thank you to everyworm that made this long, difficult, vulnerable, rewarding, insanely fun process possible.
