Syncelf – Wellness App Design
Zoe Zhang
The fast-paced life, high pressure, alienation within people, and other social phenomena cause our common physical and psychological sub-health. Nowadays, Cell phones have become the media for us to isolate, while also bringing connections to the world around us. Syncelf wants to explore the possibility of feeling ourselves, understanding ourselves, and caring for ourselves again.
Synchronize with Yourself…

NON-COMPULSIVE
MAIN OBJECTIVE
A CBT-inspired well-being app to help users discover their behavior patterns and encourage practicing mindful habits. The app includes main features like setting goals, daily log-in, and building self-care activities to enable users to identify the patterns behind their feelings. Syncelf aims to create improvements with consistency.
PRIMARY RESEARCH
My project started with the study of disordered eating behavior. After the secondary research, I designed an online anonymous survey for people to reflect on various aspects of the topic.

2 Open-ended questions to talk about personal relationships with food and body
1 Multiple-choice question on the level of satisfaction with body image and diet
19 Likert scale questions (always to never) about various diet habits and body perceptions
1 Multiple-choice question on how common people feel about disordered eating behavior
THEMATIC ANALYSIS
The survey analysis aims to establish a clear theme for the project. The result shows common dissatisfaction and stress that people experience in daily life.
To find possible pain points, I generalized the themes of touchpoints. They are behavioral transformation, psychological struggles, body image, cognitive balance, and societal influence.

USER CASE
Scenario 1 – After teaching all day, Sophia came home. She felt a bit tired and bored. She sat on the sofa and thought about grabbing some snacks and starting to watch TV shows, but she knew that would make her regret it later. Sophia opened the app and looked at the self-care suggestions. After having a bath with her favourite body wash, Sophia felt comfortable, and it helped her sleep better.
Scenario 2 – Sophia wakes up the morning after eating a lot the night before. Looking into the mirror, she starts thinking negative comments about her body. Sophia quickly slid through the affirmation in the app and wrote down all her thoughts. By doing this, she realizes how common she feels bad sometimes, but it is still a great day.

VALUE PROPOSITION
My key users are those who suffer from certain negative behavior patterns. For example, patterns like disordered eating habits can lead to physical discomfort, emotional exhaustion, low energy, anxiety, etc. Syncelf aims to bring relaxation, mindful habits, stress management, and a balanced mind-body relationship to users. The app would increase self-awareness for users when they constantly use it.

LOGIC CHAIN
People stop using habit tracking apps when they feel bored with repeating the activity, while creating self-growth motivates users. Syncelf makes the data meaningful. The logic chain of Record-Reflect-Improve-Remind lets users reflect on their feelings and behaviours, increasing consistency.

USER FLOW
The user flow presents how the key functions are connected. The parts break down the complexity and increase the possibility for self-care. Syncelf would be customized for users as they keep using the app.
