Gabby Yan

Gabby Yan (she/her) is an artist born and raised in Richmond, BC, and she is in her final year of study at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She has shown her work in exhibitions hosted by the ECUAD drawing department, “The Liveliness of Drawing” (2023) and “Traces” (2024), and has participated in a three-day Drawing Marathon. An upcoming project is her position as a student research assistant for a drawing project involving water gardens.

I am an artist who uses drawing as a method of translating feeling into thought. My practice is rooted in the careful observation of the natural world. Curiosity guides me through urban and natural environments, using cracks, shadows, striations in concrete, and perspectival lines as a starting point of inspiration. I reflect on my experiences as a third-generation Chinese immigrant to inspire themes of frustration and in-between-identities.

Past Works:

Alma, Daisy, Mona, Wanda (2024)

Solar Eclipse (2024)
