landskip, 30×40 in, oil on wood, 2025

My paintings are themed around relationship to place. Observations of patterns in nature and seasonal shifts impact my sense of colour and form. Rather than utilizing direct visual references, this series of work pulls from memory, poetry, and my longterm interest in the natural world. I explore the relationship between landscape and body, the line between figuration and abstraction, the inner world and outer world, and what is seen and unseen. The layers are built up through considerations of opacity and transparency, partially obscuring and re-defining aspects to create a blurred and dreamy atmosphere. Landskip is an obsolete form of the word ‘landscape’ and through these works I think about what exists in memory and how it carries, distorts, or lets go of experiences.
